Sharad Pawar, the leader of the NCP, will resign as party president
On Tuesday, Sharad Pawar resigned as the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Even though he was standing down as president, he declared, “I am not retiring from public life.”
Sharad Pawar, a seasoned politician, resigned as the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party on Tuesday. Pawar announced to party workers in Mumbai that he had made the decision to resign as NCP president.
Pawar revealed his decision while speaking at the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratisthan in Mumbai for the book launch of his autobiography. NCP leaders and workers reacted angrily to Pawar’s announcement.
Pawar has made it clear that he won’t stop participating in politics, though.
“Dear colleagues, I am leaving my position as president but I am not leaving public life. “Constant travel” has integrated itself into my daily life. I’ll keep going to public gatherings and events. Regardless of where I go in India—Pune, Mumbai, Baramati, Delhi, etc.—I will always be accessible to you all, Pawar assured the NCP workers.
Pawar stated in a press release that he would focus on matters pertaining to Maharashtra and India for the remaining three years of his membership in the Rajya Sabha, with the condition that he would not accept any liability. It is vital to take a step back after a lengthy time of public life from May 1, 1960, until May 1, 2023. I have therefore chosen to resign from my position as leader of the Nationalist Congress Party.
The name of Pawar’s replacement is unknown. “A committee will be formed to decide who should be given the responsibility of the party chief’s post,” the veteran lawmaker added.
Supriya Sule, the daughter of Pawar, Ajit Pawar, Praful Patel, Jayant Patil, Anil Deshmukh, Rajesh Tope, Chhagan Bhujbal, and others will serve on the committee as panel members.
Pawar is one of the NCP Party’s co-founders. After being ejected from the Indian National Congress due to an old disagreement with Sonia Gandhi, the former INC president, Pawar, PA Sangma, and Tariq Anwar founded the NCP party in 1999.
Throughout his political career, Pawar was chosen four times to serve as Maharashtra’s chief minister. He was also the minister of agriculture and defence for the Union. After the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Pawar played a key role in bringing together the NCP, Congress, and the Shiv Sena, which was their ideological rival. This coalition became known as the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.
